Go to all sermons...

After painting an incredibly rich picture of truth in the book of Hebrews, the writer than encourages us to never quit meeting together, in order to help each other hold onto this truth.  Reminding us that we’ve gained access into the presence of God, because of the shed blood of Jesus, the writer encourages us, to desire deeply after the presence of God.  Doing this, because of the wonder of having received a cleansed heart in this process.

But knowing how easily we drift from this incredible truth, the writer urges us in two directions.  First off he says, encourage and exhort each other in this fashion.  We need each other to hold onto these truths.  Secondly, he says, don’t ever stop meeting together.  Continue to meet and encourage each other to hold onto these truths.

Such a rich picture of the church, a body that is called the family, the household, the bride of Christ throughout the Bible.  Looking at the bride in such intimate terms, it does appear that covenanting together, to be this body, would draw us into the deepest intimate relationships we could be a part of.

The Bible really does tell us over and over how much we need each other.  So in the end, I do believe it brings us back to one question.  Will I, covenant together with the body, in order to live out what the writers in Hebrews call us to?  Regularly committing to each other enough to encourage and be encouraged, to warn and to be warned, in order to never let go of the faith we profess?

NSC, may we be this body for each other!!
