Midweek Wake-Up

On my last day here at NSC, I just have to say that I have had a fantastic time these past few years at NSC. It was a real honor to serve here, and it was a real honor to be able to preach on my last Sunday here. I am having such a joy finishing up strong these past few days with our youth Christmas windups. The youth ministry has certainly been the highlight of my time here, so it has been great to finish up in this way.

On Sunday, I spoke from Mark 4. Jesus talks about a lamp that is being revealed, and I spoke about how this lamp is Jesus and the coming kingdom of God. The challenge for us as Christians is to reflect the light of Jesus well. A very astute congregant approached me after the service and asked if the light is not referring to the Holy Spirit. I hadn’t thought of it like that before, but of course it is also referring to the Holy Spirit.

If you are a believer, be encouraged that the kingdom is coming. One day God is going to wipe away sin for good, and we will get to experience the awesomeness that is eternal unity with God. Be encouraged that we get glimpses or that coming kingdom now. Be encouraged that the Holy Spirit is living inside you. Jesus himself told the disciples that whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these… (John 14:12) We have the Holy Spirit living inside of us, and He will equip and enable us to do God’s work in this world, right now.

Friends, I would strongly encourage you to lean into the Holy Spirit. Discover how God has gifted you, and pour into His kingdom according to your gifting. We get to experience God’s Spirit right now. And by using your God-given gifts well, you are reflecting the light of Jesus well.

And if you don’t believe in Jesus, you should know that the news for you is not good; without Jesus, eternal separation from God is what awaits you. You may not be bothered by this, but if you are, don’t be discouraged! Scripture tells us that all who genuinely call on the Lord will be saved. (Rom. 10:13; Matt. 7:21) All you have to do is believe in Jesus and you get God, you get the Holy Spirit, you get the coming kingdom, and you get eternal unity with the Lord.

Thank you for the honor of having me as one of your pastors. NSC will always have a special place in my heart. May you experience the Lord’s peace now and forevermore.
