Go to all sermons...

This week we looked at Mark 6:1-6 where Jesus returns to His hometown. He doesn’t exactly get a hero’s welcome. In fact, many were offended by Jesus. They thought they knew everything there was to know about Jesus. He was the local carpenter. A son of Mary and a brother to his siblings that still lived in and around Nazareth. They could not accept the news of the miracles and signs that all pointed towards Jesus being the son of God.

Jesus could do very few miracles there due to the people’s lack of faith. Jesus will not force his miracles and power upon us. His miracles always affirmed people’s faith and pointed towards His Father. To do miracles in the presence of unbelief would do nothing more than create a crowd that would be following Jesus for what he could provide for them (healing, sustenance etc) instead of wanting Jesus himself who is our true bread of life.

NSC, my prayer is that we would be a church that pursues Christ, not because of his blessings, but because he is our greatest blessing! Let’s together fall on our knees before a holy God and plead that he would pour out his Spirit on us. That we would repent of ways in which we have become desensitized to him or refused to submit to him because we were too busy trying to protect our own little kingdoms. Let us eat of the Bread of Life himself and be satisfied that he will be enough for us!
