Mid Week Wake-Up
Good morning church! Here we are, just 4 days left till Christmas!! Meaning there’s probably only 3 shopping days left to get those gifts, food and beverages for all of the parties and gatherings coming up. And as we heard on Sunday, a huge amount of us are swimming in the stress and anxiety of it all, as Christmas has now become one of the most stressful life events we celebrate.
And while we are stressed and trying to figure out how we get ready for it all, the amazing thing is that this baby we celebrate (Jesus Christ) grew up and one day spoke the following words “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”. Rest, the thing we all long for, in the midst of the stress and anxiety of this season. Rest amongst a culture that now states that anxiety and depression is one of the number one things it battles against.
Perhaps, we need to view the birth of Jesus in a new light once again. Jesus didn’t come to take away all of our reasons for stress. He didn’t come as a self-improvement theory or a means to ensure that this Christmas would be the greatest one yet. He came amidst the chaos, stress and anxiety of our lives to meet our greatest need – the need for forgiveness! Therefore reminding us that if we rest in this truth, we can indeed know rest – and therefore the joy of the season, living without the weight and burden of guilt.
So this morning NSC, amidst all the last minute getting ready for the celebrations, take a moment to simply reflect on the words of John the Baptist who said the following when he saw Jesus by the banks of the river “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” And rejoice in our Redeemer who has come!! Merry Christmas!!!
