It’s been written that “without the full truth, and a mature understanding of it, there cannot be a satisfying Christianity or a stable church.  A hallmark of the Spirit’s work according to Paul is an unquenchable thirst to learn.”

The writer would appear to be saying that an unquenchable thirst to encounter the living God through His living Word, is what leads us to a deep, satisfying faith.  As we saw on Sunday, this was one of the marks of the Living Church we read about in the book of Acts.  Living with a single minded devotion to taking in God’s Word and then living their lives by submitting to the authority they found there.

If we hit that point of the unsatisfactory faith, that we’ve gone stagnant, feeling like God is not there, perhaps we have to do some self reflection.  Are we sitting in the presence of the living God – sitting deeply in His Word believing that it speaks to us today.  Sitting in God’s Word not as a merely academic exercise, or checking off a to do list, but sitting in His presence longing to encounter and to hear from Him.

NSC, I pray that today we would long to sit in the presence of the living God, soaking up His words to us.  May we pray along with David “how sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”
