Psalms 119: 10-11
As a general rule, we meet every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month, in the church basement, from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. However, it is best to check the NSC Calendar, as we sometimes need to make exceptions.
What exactly do we do?
As implied by the name, there are a few aspects to Hide ‘n’ Seek…
Of course, we play and have fun. Each evening includes a variety of active games, as well as snacks.
We encourage the children to Seek God (Ps. 119: 10), and we do this by encouraging them to ask any questions they like about God or about the Bible. They can write their questions down and put them in the Hide ‘n’ Seek box, and these questions then form the basis for the Bible lessons we teach when we get together. Our goal is to answer their questions thoughtfully, honestly, and as thoroughly as we are able. And, of course, one question leads to another… Already, it has been very encouraging to see the interest the children have been showing and the kinds of questions they have been asking.
We also encourage the children to Hide God’s Word in their hearts (Ps. 119: 11). Specifically, we have been encouraging them to memorize verses or passages of scripture. Our goal is to help the children develop a personal habit and value for scripture memory, and as part of that goal, we have avoided the use of individual prizes or competition as incentives. We also do not require all the children to memorize the same verses. Each child is encouraged to choose verses or passages that they are interested in learning (and we provide suggestions if they have no ideas). Some will memorize more than others, and that’s ok. But to make things fun, we’ve set a group goal, and when we reach that goal, we’re having a party. 🙂
It is a privilege to minister to so many children from so many different families, and we don’t take that privilege lightly. If you ever wish to speak to us about Hide ‘n’ Seek, please feel free to ask us any questions you like. Or if you’d like to help, just ask us, and we’ll see how you can get involved!
